Specific Rights for Single Parents

You came to Germany alone with your underage children? You may have been separated during your flight? Or you separated from the other parent while in Germany? As a single parent, you are entitled to appropriate support.

Your Specific Rights

  • Consideration of your situation as a single parent in the asylum procedure
  • Possibility of international tracing of family members
  • Family reunification within Germany or Europe, if living together is desired
  • Safe accommodation in shared housing with other families (for single mothers: with other single mothers)
  • Provision of a supervised play area for your children in the shared accommodation
  • Counselling and services from the youth welfare office, such as socio-educational family support/parenting assistance, covering childcare costs in emergencies such as hospital stays
  • Counselling on separation, divorce, and parenting issues
